Prompt Injection

The Quick Explanation

Simply Put:
Prompt Injection is a technique where someone crafts specific input to manipulate an AI system, like a chatbot or AI assistant, into ignoring its intended instructions. Instead of using the tool the way it was designed to be used, the attacker gets it to do something else entirely, whether that’s revealing information it shouldn’t or behaving in a way the business never intended.

Why it Matters:
As more businesses adopt AI tools for customer service, internal workflows, and data handling, this becomes a real risk rather than a theoretical one. An AI system that can be talked into bypassing its own guardrails can potentially expose sensitive data or take actions outside its intended scope, all without anyone breaking into a system in the traditional sense.

How We Protect Clients:

  • Monitor client systems around the clock for unusual activity, including AI-integrated tools
  • Help evaluate the security of AI tools before they’re adopted into business workflows
  • Limit what sensitive data connected AI tools can access in the first place
  • Educate employees on the risks of AI tools handling sensitive business information
  • Include emerging technology risks, like AI systems, in regular security reviews
